LANSING – A list of some 50 issues needing to be addressed in the rewriting of Michigan Telecommunications Act has been identified by a workgroup formed by the Senate Technology and Energy Committee, and the list could get longer.
The members of the workgroup were urged to add any other issues they think have bearing on the act’s rewrite before it next meets on February 10.
Among the issues identified for review is how Michigan compares to other states in its telecommunications laws, the type of regulation the state should enact, how the state should promote investment, the kind of emphasis to give voice over internet protocol, how the law should keep current with and ahead of technological changes, the role the state will play in mergers and acquisitions of telecommunications companies, the role of the Michigan Broadband Development Authority, as well as whether federal law will preempt state law.
