ANN ARBOR ? The Michigan Growth Capital Symposium has extended the application deadline for companies hoping to pitch a who?s who of the nation?s top investors June 15-16 at the University of Michigan.

Thirty-two start-ups to later-stage operating companies will be invited to present a 10-minute pitch. Presenting companies will be selected on the basis of the company’s: target customers; how well the company’s products and services address the target market; competitive advantage; management team;

potential growth rate and size; financial model including the company’s stage and the amount of capital being raised; and the opportunity to create superior shareholder value.

The audiences at past symposia have included the venture capital firms and angel groups in Michigan, numerous VC firms, private and corporate investors and I-banks from the Midwest and both coasts. We also attract the most influential opinion-leaders in the Midwest’s life science and technology industries, including accounting firms, law firms, banks and executive recruiters.

Prior to the conference the companies selected will be coached intensively by the selection committee and other professionals to refine their business plans and presentations. Following each presentation, a panel of top-tier investors will comment on the presentation, offering the presenters and audience valuable, first-hand feedback on what works and what doesn’t when pitching to investors. Panelists also offer their opinions on specific market segments, business models or value statements to illustrate the current status of raising money from private equity investors, and specifically comment on how the presenters can better pitch their businesses, including areas like overall presentation (aesthetics, presenter ability, pace, etc.)

The 32 presenting companies are also be invited to exhibit at the MGCS. The conference’s format includes extensive networking time, which is conducted in and near the exhibits area.
