LANSING – Though details were being held close to the vest, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation was set to announce Wednesday structural changes to its operation that will mean a change for current CEO Don Jakeway.
Sources told Gongwer News Service Tuesday that among those changes would be a new CEO for the public corporation with Jakeway moved to new responsibilities.
Sources would not indicate the nature of the coming changes, but Liz Boyd, Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s spokesperson, denied a rumor that among those changes was the departure of Jakeway from the MEDC.
“He is not leaving,” she said.
The sources, who declined to be named, said Jakeway was being given more responsibility for economic development work and a new person was being hired to oversee operations of the MEDC.
Sources within the MEDC said that Jakeway, hired two years ago from a similar position in Toledo, had administrative disagreements with Labor and Economic Growth Director David Hollister in part because Hollister held a tighter rein on operations.
