SOUTHFIELD Lawrence Technology University has teamed up with Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts to make it easier for Specs Howard students to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Radio and TV Broadcasting from LTU.
Specs students can complete the eight month or 12 month broadcasting courses at Specs Southfield campus and then transfer across town to Lawrence Tech to complete their Associates degree.
Lawrence Tech has more of a technical background in what they do, said Jonathan Liebman, President and CEO of Specs Howard. When you combine the liberal arts education at Lawrence Tech with our hands on training it provides out students a practical well rounded education.
The Lawrence Tech deal is one of about a dozen that Specs Howard uses to beef up its radio and TV broadcast training curriculum. Others deals include Washtenaw Community College, Henry Ford Community College, Oakland University and Rochester College which rents space at the Specs building to provide its students with an associate and bachelors degree.
About 600 students study at Specs each year, Liebman said. Some 90 percent are placed at radio and TV broadcasters, recording studios and post production houses, he said.
