SOUTHFIELD ? To help energy managers reduce energy consumption in an environmentally sensitive manner, Lawrence Technological University now offers a Certificate in Energy and Environmental Management.
This graduate-level, three-credit-hour course provides in-depth knowledge of the energy field, with an innovative environmental component. This course is the latest in a burgeoning energy technologies curriculum pioneered at Lawrence Tech.
The program is open to anyone with a bachelor?s degree in engineering, as well as to individuals working in the field who lack a degree, but can provide proof of sufficient technical background in energy systems, such as thermodynamics or HVAC.
In addition to traditional coursework that addresses such topics as waste heat recovery, energy generation technologies and environmental issues and regulations, Lawrence Tech?s certificate program includes projects, site visits and special guest lectures. Students will prepare energy conservation plans, environmental impact assessments, environmental emergency preparedness plans or energy audits.
Upon completion of the course, students must pass a comprehensive exam to earn the certificate. CEEM credits are transferable to several Lawrence Tech master?s degree programs.
The course begins Jan. 11, 2005, and meets Tuesday evenings from 5:45-8:30 p.m. through May 3, 2005.
