LANSING – A two-day jobs mission to California by Gov. Jennifer Granholm included a meeting with a Los Angeles biofuel firm on Tuesday, which followed a meeting Monday with leaders of five San Francisco-area venture capital firms to encourage investment in alternative energy projects in Michigan.

The governor said investment firms across the country are focused on alternative energy, and looking for those with growth potential, with innovative entrepreneurs and that are new startups. The meeting in Los Angeles was with officials at Primafuel, a company working on zero carbon fuels.

The meetings Monday were with officials at Kleiner-Perkins, VantagePoint, Nth Power, Corium International, and Khosla Ventures.

“We have an economic plan that will grow our alternative energy sector and an infrastructure second to none – thanks to our skilled workforce, our manufacturing capacity, our footprint of forests, and our abundant wind – all of which make Michigan the best place for venture capital firms to consider investing,” Granholm said in a statement.

She is expected to seek legislation adopting a renewable portfolio standard, which would require the state to generate a percentage of power with renewable resources.

In Los Angeles, the governor, along with Michigan Film Office Director Janet Lockwood, also met with entertainment industry executives to outline incentives the state is offering to attract moviemakers.

The governor said she also dropped by the headquarters of Google to extend a thank you for the firm’s investment in Ann Arbor.
