SOUTHFIELD ? TiE Detroit May 23 meeting will feature a keynote from former Detroit Redwing Doug Brown who will discuss leadership in all aspects of the word. The meeting will take place at 6 pm at the Southfield Marriott in the Charlavoix Room.
So what makes a great leader?
The general notion about entrepreneurship is that it is only about starting a business and making it successful. However, that is far from the truth. The fact is that entrepreneurship has everything to do with implementing your ideas, and your ability to negotiate, communicate and influence others. You cannot be a good entrepreneur without being a good leader first.
Fortunately, leaders are made, not born. You learn to become a leader by doing what other excellent leaders have done before you. You become proficient in your job or skill, and then you become proficient at understanding the motivations and behaviors of other people. As a leader, you combine your personal competencies with the competencies of others into a smoothly functioning team that can outplay and outperform all its competitors.
Currently, Brown is the President of Douglas A. Brown Co. He is also a hockey analyst for Fox Sports Detroit, Channel 50 and CBS Detroit. Brown lives in Bloomfield Hills with his wife and five children.
