KALAMAZOO ? Stephen Nelson, Ph.D, has joined Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone as senior technical specialist in the Intellectual Property and Information Technology Group. He will reside in the firm?s Kalamazoo office.
Nelson has more than 30 years’ experience as a scientist in medicinal chemistry, biological screening, and synthetic chemistry. He has prepared patent applications in the areas of pharmaceutical chemistry, process chemistry, biotechnology, materials science and medical devices; assisted with preparing freedom to operate, due diligence, invalidity, and non-infringement options.
Prior to joining Miller, Canfield, Nelson was a Senior Patent Scientist at Pharmacia/Pfizer Corporation in Kalamazoo. His past experience in the Animal Health Division at Pharmacia and Upjohn includes Director, Scientific Information and Technology, Director, Animal Health Discovery Research and Project Director for two drug development candidates. He started his career in 1972 as a Research Scientist at Upjohn.
Nelson received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oregon and a post-doctoral appointment at the Stanford Research Institute. He received his M.S. with a major in Organic Chemistry and a B.S. with majors in Chemistry and Mathematics, both from the University of Minnesota.
