ANN ARBOR ? Trevor Jones, Director of OEM Business Development of Thermo Electron Corporation?s Laboratory Automation and Integration Business, has been selected as the new president of Robotic Industries Association ? the trade group?s 17th president, but first one from Canada.
Jones, who co-founded CRS Robotics in 1983, succeeds Ǻke Lindqvist, Group Vice President, Robotic Products and Automation N.A. of ABB, who served as RIA President for the 2004 and 2005 terms. Lindqvist remains on the RIA Board as Past President.
?The North American robotics industry has followed two consecutive years of solid double-digit growth with an absolutely explosive first nine months of 2005, with sales 30 percent over the same period in 2004,?? Jones said. ?It is exciting to be leading the Association in the coming year during such a robust time for the industry.?
Jones has been on the RIA Board of Directors since 1999, and was most recently the RIA First Vice President and the three-term Chairman of the New Markets Committee.
The RIA Board is comprised of nineteen industry leaders, each serving two-year terms. Among those joining Jones is newly elected Director John Dunlop, United States Postal Service. Second term elected Directors are Bob Anderson, DaimlerChrysler Corporation; Bernd Liepert, KUKA Robotics Corporation; Catherine Morris, ATI Industrial Automation; and Ron Potter, Motoman Inc. They join three Directors who were elected to a third term: Peter Cavallo, Denso Robotics; Michael Kunkle, Harley-Davidson Motor Company and Kevin Ostby from FANUC Robotics America.
