GRAND RAPIDS – CareerMatrix.com has spent nearly $200,000 to develop an online job placement program for Grand Rapids Community Colleges web site, which will let students submit an online rsum as well as search local job postings by area employers. The system will also allow interaction between counseling staff, students and employers.

CareerMatrix.Com co founder Dennis Hoyle said his company has been creating the new job placement element for more than two years.

We are adding new components per GRCCs request and it will change over the next few weeks, Hoyle said Friday.

Hoyles business partner, Tim Colthorp, said GRCC is very concerned about the quality of their students so they take the time to personally check every application to make sure that the student is qualified for the positions they are applying for. This unique quality control challenged CareerMatrix.Coms ability to customize the program to fit their needs, but the program was adjusted to accommodate this feature.

The Career Center provides GRCC with the ability to manage a secure, web based online jobsite for students to greatly improve their chances of getting a job. Assigned counselors can set up on-campus interviews for employers and an online schedule for counseling with students. Because of the integration with CareerMatrix.com, employers and staff will have a simple way to connect with each other to post jobs without having to retype the information.

Students can create online resumes, make them available to college-approved employers, and easily send them through the Internet to apply for positions. They have all of the tools available through CareerMatrix.com such as a contact manager which maintains a history for them of the jobs they applied for. Students can also activate a job alert function to notify them whenever a new job is available that fits their criteria. Students can even set the interview alert to notify them through their wireless device whenever an employer is trying to reach them for an interview. Directly through the Internet, they can set appointments to visit their assigned career counselor, or book an interview with companies coming to the campus for interviews.

Employers can sign up through the college web site, or can be imported from the CareerMatrix.com list of employers. Once approved by the staff, the employer can obtain access to post jobs directly to the campus web site for students and alumni to browse.
