KALAMAZOO Blue-Granite relocated last weekend from a cramped office in Portage to its 15,000 square foot headquarters building in the Kalamazoo Smart Park another positive sign that the Michigan technology sector continues to grow stronger.
Blue-Granite, a $2 million a year software development company, has been doing so well it decided to build a corporate headquarters last year in the Western Michigan Universitys Business Technology and Research Park, not far from the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center. The company is using 8,000 square feet, rented another 2,000 square feet to an engineering company, and has 5,000 square feet yet to let.
This building puts us in the heart of the SmartZone in Kalamazoo, said Blue-Granite President Matt Mace. It pus us around similar companies in technology and provides us with a a lot of space for growth.
Mace said the $1.5 million project includes some user-friendly amenities, such as a Wi-Fi hot spot in the courtyard, where employees can do work on nice days near the fish pond and Barbeque grill. The new Blue-Granite headquarters also will serve as a monthly meeting forum for glimaSouthwest, a new Microsoft user group and an RFIP user group.
