HOLLAND Hiring of IT professionals will continue to increase in western Michigan through the second half of 2004 with some 25 percent of senior IT managers reporting in a survey released Wednesday that they will hire more professionals, primarily for mid-level positions.
Paragon Recruiting, a Holland-based technology recruiting company, said the 25 percent figure compared with only 16 percent of companies that said they expected to hire IT professionals in the second half of 2003. The company polled more than 500 senior IT managers in its semi annual IT hiring survey.

Outsourcing will increase with more than 40 percent of companies placing technology projects in the hands of outside companies, the survey also showed. Nearly three-quarters of the outsourcing will be done locally, which matches the expectations of computer consulting companies that have been reporting plans to increase staff. Government and health care IT senior managers also expected to hire more technology professionals by 50 percent and 38 percent, respectively.
The biggest (more than 1,000 employees) and smallest (less than 50 employees) companies will do the most hiring in the second half of 2004, the survey showed. Applications specialists will get more job offers, followed by systems specialists and support staff.
Mid level professionals will get nearly half the job offers, followed by senior and junior level employees.
