BLOOMFIELD HILLS ? Thirteen potential new angel investors participated in the second Angels? Boot Camp Nov. 16 at Schoolcraft College ? angels that could soon start investing in Michigan start ups.

The day-long seminar, open to high net worth individuals in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario, Canada, drew participants from all these regions, said David Weaver, president of Great Lakes Angels, which hosted the event.

?It was fantastic,? Weaver said. ?They were all very impressed with the information that received. Many had never done any angel investing at all and were very curious about it.?

Weaver said the participants had cashed out of their companies, or had a high enough net worth, to find out how angel investing could diversify their financial portfolios.

?They had a few million dollars and were looking for something to do with it,?? he said.

The keynote was John May, a national leader in the angel investor movement. May is the co-author of Every Business needs an Angel and State of the Art: An Executive Briefing on Cutting-Edge Practices in American Angel Investing. At the forefront of angel investing for 14 years, May is also the vice chairman of the newly formed Angel Capital Alliance, a program of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

Great Lakes Angels is open to accredited investors who must commit to making a minimum investment of $25,000 per year in one or more companies presented by Great Lakes Angels. GLA hosts monthly meetings that include pitches by promising start ups looking for investments.
