LANSING – The Michigan House has canceled plans to meet for session Wednesday, following news the Senate had nixed its meeting because no agreement has been reached on the energy package.
The House is scheduled to convene on August 20 while the Senate is set to meet next on August 27. However, Senate officials expect action on the energy package won’t occur until both chambers are back for three weeks in September.
But on Tuesday, Greg Bird, spokesperson for House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Twp.), said they weren’t conceding that the energy legislation won’t be ready until September.
“I think we are going to continue meeting and hope we can come to an agreement,” he said.
To perhaps underscore that point, the conference committee on HB 5524 , which is part of the package, was cancelled for Wednesday but rescheduled for August 20.
Throughout the day further committee meetings on the House side were cancelled, although the conference committee on the Department of Transportation budget (HB 5808 ) was still set to meet Wednesday as of publishing. However, the chair of the panel said last week that no agreement had been made on the budget and that calling the meeting was a way of getting people to the negotiation table.
