BIRMINGHAM – News came out last week that Chinese hackers have been in the US infrastructure (Including electrical grids, water treatment plants) for five years. Cybersecurity professional Richard Stiennon joins MITechTV to provide analysis.
Stiennon said US cyber experts were aware of the Chinese presence and watched them to see what they would do. He said the US is also deep inside the Chinese infrastructure so if war breaks out over Taiwan the US could simply black out China and take down its computer network.
He also responded to reports that hackers are using artificial intelligence to write better attack code and in response cybersecurity defenders are writing code to counter the hackers. This scenario would mean AI is battling AI in cyberspace, the stuff of a SciFi movie legend.
Stiennon is the author of Security Yearbook. He still have about 600 copies available that he has to sell by April 30 to comply with his 2024 edition publisher’s demand that he no longer sell his books directly.
