SOUTHFIELD—The Engineering Society of Detroit has announced the opening of its third annual TechCentury Student Writing Contest.
The contest aims to promote and engage student voices and ideas about the profession of engineering.
The contest is now open to all students attending accredited Michigan universities and studying within any of the engineering disciplines or related fields.
The top award-winning essay author will receive recognition at the 2021 ESD Gold Award Reception and a $1,000 scholarship, sponsored by Fishman Stewart, LLC.
Students are asked to write a 750-word essay on one of three topics listed below. Entries must be received by the close of business on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, by email to [email protected].
The Editorial Board of ESD’s TechCentury magazine will review entries. The top three essays will be published, with a profile of the student, in the January 2021 issue of TechCentury, both print and online.
The three topics selected for the contest this year are:
* How do you feel the COVID-19 pandemic has affected your engineering education, and how have you academically met the challenges it brings?
* Why did you decide to pursue engineering (and your particular field) and how do you anticipate the work to evolve over the course of your career?
* What do you consider the most amazing feat of engineering over the last 100 years, and why? How did it change the world of engineering?
Throughout its existence, The Engineering Society of Detroit has been a leader, whether in promoting the engineering and scientific professions or by providing invaluable technical assistance to the community. It is the vision of ESD to serving this generation of engineers, scientists and allied professionals and foster the next. ESD membership is open to engineers, scientists, architects and those in related or allied professions. There are three levels of individual membership: Professional, Student and Retired.
