ANN ARBOR – The Association for Women in Computing Ann Arbor chapter has donated five full scholarships to the Grace Hopper Project, a summer computer camp operated by the Women in Science and Engineering Program at the University of Michigan.
Our donation will provide full scholarships for five young women to attend this exciting program, said Barbara Eckstein, President of AWC Ann Arbor Chapter. We strongly believe that programs, such as the Grace Hopper Camp, provide life-changing experiences, role models, and encouragement for young women who may be interested in a career in computer technology.
The Grace Hopper Camp will be held July 12 through July 16 and provide high school women with an introduction to advanced multimedia design and development; dynamic web programming; computer-assisted virtual environments; and both hardware and software life cycle management from initial conception/design to operation/support.
Projects will focus on developing practical computer skills. Each day includes hands-on computer projects and opportunities to talk with women scientists and engineers, learn about careers of the future and explore the UM campus and area high technology sites.
