GRAND RAPIDS – US Signal on Tuesday announced the addition of new Ethernet enhancements that will make it easier for business customers to tap its 3,000 route-mile fiber-based data network that runs through Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
US Signal has deployed ANDA?s EtherEdge 4000 aggregation and EtherReach 2000 CPE platforms that combine traditional local access technologies onto single Ethernet interfaces. This means business customers can reach the US Signal fiber network using an Ethernet connection service provided by DS-1 and DS-3 lines.
?We have seen increasing demand for Ethernet technology and solutions in the marketplace,? said Kirk Dombek, product manager for US Signal. ?The ability to connect and reach geographically diverse locations over efficient, scalable Ethernet connections is motivating many businesses to simplify their network architecture while simultaneously reducing costs.?
Analyst Michael Howard of Infonetics Research said during the next year, his company predicts some 1 million to 50 million Ethernet access points will be reached using technology like this, generating an additional $5 billion by 2009. Today only 10 to 15 percent of business customer locations are connected to fiber, so creating an alternative method to copper-fed buildings could get a lot more businesses connected.
Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, ANDA Networks provides carrier-class Metro Ethernet Access solutions for delivering cost-effective converged communication services across fiber, copper, and wireless based access networks worldwide.
US Signal has built and developed one of the most comprehensive fiber optic networks in the Midwest with unlimited high-speed capacity, dark fiber and collocation services. The company also works with customers to design and build new network construction projects.
