SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Toda America is scouting locations in Michigan and South Carolina to build a new lithium-ion battery cell production factory. Toda America wants to find a shovel-ready site, contingent upon winning a Department of Energy grant under the Recovery Act – Electric Drive Vehicle Battery and Component Manufacturing Initiative to be awarded in late July.
“Toda intends to be a catalyst for the development of the U.S. lithium-ion battery industry supply base,” said Toda America President Jun Nakano. “Having a local supply base is a key step in the development of a sustainable electric drive vehicle market in the United States.”
Growing the next-generation battery industry in the U.S. requires a robust, local supply chain and Toda’s proprietary process engineering and extensive manufacturing experience enables it to produce large quantities of high quality and low cost materials.
