ANN ARBOR – The Association for Women in Computing (AWC) is offering three $1500 scholarships to female Michigan college students pursuing degrees in Computer Science or Technology. The filing deadline is April 1.

To be eligible, applicants must be full- or part-time female students enrolled in a college or university in the state of Michigan. They also must be American citizens. Scholarship recipients will be honored at AWC’s annual Gala to be held Nov. 5 at The Fairlane Club in Dearborn.

Each applicant must prepare answers to the following three questions:

Why are you excited about working with computers and information technology?

Describe your most fulfilling computer-related project or experience.

Identify a current trend in technology and describe how it might evolve over the next ten years. Please limit your responses to all answers to 2500 words or less.

Awards are determined based on the three answers. The most important considerations are motivation, passion, thoughtfulness, creativity, skillful communication, and participation in the computing community.

?Last year we gave out one $1,500 scholarship,? said Darlene Morin, AWC Gala vice president. ?We made quite a bit of money on the Gala, so this year we?re giving out three. Next year we hope to give five.?

Morin said AWC also is looking for nominations for the Top Women in Computing Awards that are presented during the Gala.
