LANSING – Small business owners can earn statewide recognition by entering the Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards program. Nominations and applications will be accepted beginning Sept. 15.
Michigan Celebrates Small Business is a cooperative effort of the U.S. Small Business Administration ? Michigan, the Small Business Association of Michigan, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center and the Edward Lowe Foundation.
Award categories are Small Business Person of the Year, Exporter of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Entrepreneurial Success Award, Family-Owned Small Business of the Year Award, Home-Based Business Champion of the Year, Minority Small Business Champion of the Year Award, Financial Services Champion of the Year, Small Business Champion of the Year, Women in Business Advocate of the Year, Michigan Small Business Counselor of the Year Small Business Journalist of the Year, Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year Award, Innovation of the Year Award, Main Street USA Best Small Business Award and Government Contracting Award.
Nominations for these awards will be accepted through Nov. 15. Applications can be found at any National City branch in Michigan.
In addition, the Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards include Michigan 50 Companies to Watch, sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation. Each year the program recognizes and celebrates the contributions, innovation and energy of 50 diverse second-stage companies in Michigan.
Nominations for the Michigan 50 Companies to Watch award will be accepted Sept. 15 to Nov. 3. Companies vying for the Michigan 50 award are required to submit applications, which are due Nov. 15. Companies may apply for the Michigan 50 award without being nominated.
Awards will be presented April 12, 2007, at the Michigan Celebrates Small Business event and dinner at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.
