HOLLAND – Almost no west Michigan companies plan to decrease their information technology staffs this summer and fall, while nearly a third report they plan to hire more IT professionals, a study released Monday contends.
Paragon Recruiting has just released its latest Technology Employment Forecast for the second half of 2006 reported 29 percent of reporting firms expect to hire more IT professionals, while 70 percent report that their staffs will remain unchanged.
But when you read the fine print you see that certain segments of the industry plan to hire more than others. For instance, the survey shows nearly two-thirds of the computer consulting companies in West Michigan are planning to hire new IT staff during the last half of 2006. This fits well with the increased local outsourcing of technology projects expected by companies in the area, Paragon Recruiting said in a press release.
But professional services companies and those with 50 to 100 employees, groups that predicted very strong hiring for the first half of 2006, now anticipate few if any more additions to IT staff this summer and fall.
Paragon Recruiting polls more than 500 Senior IT Managers in West Michigan every six months to determine what the future holds for IT staffing and IT services outsourcing. This forecast includes responses from approximately 100 companies.
After IT consulting, schools plan to hire the most IT professionals in the latter half of 2006 ? 40 percent ? while retail/wholesale companies the fewest ? 14 percent.
Mid level applications professionals will be in the most demand, with both senior and junior level support pros the least likely to find new jobs.
