HOLLAND – For the first time since the Technology Employment Forecast began in 2003, not one of the participating companies reports that they will decrease their information technology staffs. Every category of business plans to increase IT staffing in West Michigan.

Almost three-quarters of computer consulting firms will be hiring. Nearly half of the participating healthcare and retail/wholesale firms expect to hire more technology professionals. Large companies (over 1000 employees) are continuing their trend of increasing IT staff. Senior level staffers seem to be in higher demand than the first half of the year.

Outsourcing of IT projects is increasing to over 40 percent with local outsourcing still the most popular. Many companies report multiple outsource locations.

Paragon Recruiting, a local technology recruiting firm, has just released its new Technology Employment Forecast for the second half of 2010. The information in this forecast can be indicative of the overall business climate in west Michigan and help companies make their strategic decisions. Nearly 100 mid and west Michigan firms of varying sizes and industries participated in this semi-annual forecast. Most have been faithful participants since the first forecast for 2003.

“I working on many open positions. I have many candidates interviewing and finding new positions,” said Paragon’s chief recruiting officer Beth DeWilde. “Certainly, we all hope these signs of employment recovery will continue.”

Various interesting statistics are compiled by expectations of hiring by company size, company industry, IT disciplines and skill levels. The following graphs are samples of forecasting trends.
