LANSING – Could the director’s cry of ?Action? soon be heard more in Michigan? The Senate on Thursday acted on a series of bills designed to make Michigan more attractive to film and television producers in terms of taxes.

The chamber passed 10 House-originated bills granting film production companies a 40 percent credit on the state’s business tax, along with sales and income tax deductions and provisions for state loans to production companies and the free use of state property for some productions.

The chamber also enrolled six similar bills that originated in the Senate – SB 1173 , SB 1174 , SB 1176 , SB 1177 and SB 1178 – as part of the overall package to help reinvigorate the film production industry in the state.

During the series of hearings on the bills, film industry executives told lawmakers that if the bills were passed then the state would begin to see almost immediate interest in new film production here.
