LANSING ? Michigan Senate Republicans unveiled a series of proposals to boost tourism and industrial development in Northern Michigan by creating a Great Lakes Recreational Pass that would allow pass holders access to state parks, forests and federal forests through the region.

The proposal is based on a similar idea in Washington, Oregon with the National Park Service. Sen. Tony Stamas (R-Midland) said the proposal could do much to boost tourism in Michigan.

The group also called for Single Business Tax breaks for short-line railroads to do track maintenance. And they called for targeting Community Development Block Grants to the state’s rural areas.
