LANSING ? The Michigan Homeland Security Consortium hopes to provide Michigan companies that develop or manufacture security-related technologies and products with up to $1 million in funds and services through a new fund backed by NuSoft Solutions, Secure Matrix, Clark Hill and other sponsors.

The Consortium will appoint an advisory committee to oversee the fund, provide tax and legal advice and determine allocations to recipients. In the months ahead, the MIHSC will notify its membership and economic development partners about the process of attracting resources and allocating funds.

?Time and money are vital to help this market sector grow in Michigan. There are other public and private funds, but not all of it goes to Homeland Security-related businesses. We?ll supplement existing resources and dedicate ourselves to boosting the market segment,? said Keith Brophy, MIHSC Chairman and President of Troy-based NuSoft Solutions.p>

The Consortium currently is attracting financial, legal and communications sponsors who will contribute to the Michigan Homeland Security Resource Fund. Sponsorship commitments to-date include services from legal, technology, and strategy firms, including Clark Hill PLC, NuSoft Solutions and SecureMatrix.

?I know firsthand how hungry Michigan entrepreneurs are for funding and help. Our resource fund comes at a critical economic turning point in Michigan. We need these extra incentives to keep businesses here and attract others,? said Tom Hines, MIHSC President and founder of Grand Rapids-based SecureMatrix.

The Michigan Homeland Security Consortium is a non-profit organization dedicated to the growth of the Homeland Security industry.
