LANSING – A new Michigan web site dedicated to the recently enacted Michigan Business Tax has gone live, and includes a 30-minute webinar to walk residents through the basic elements of the tax, officials with the Department of Treasury said on Monday.
Treasurer Robert Kleine said the site will be the best location to get information on the new tax, which replaces the Single Business Tax on January 1. The site provides a webinar, which features basic information about the tax, as well as specific sections of the new tax law for review.
Not yet available, though officials hope it will be soon, is a tax estimating function on the website. A tax estimator is available, though, through the National Federation of Independent Businesses website. The site will be regularly updated with new information, Treasury officials said.
Meanwhile, state officials said Monday that any business that anticipates it will have a 2008 business tax liability of at least $800 will have to file quarterly estimated payments. Payments under the new tax will be due on April 15, July 15, October 15, 2008 and January 15, 2009.
