GRAND RAPIDS ITS Communications continues to expand its reach throughout the Midwest by opening a new office in Chicago. Offices in Wisconsin and Ohio are next for the voice and data integration company.

Earlier this month, ITC hired two account executives for its Chicago office – Mike Hochberg and Mike Hanley. Hockberg has recent sales experience with MCI & Sprint, while Hanley has sales experience with Broadwing & Qwest. They will be responsible for providing ITS Virtual Network Carrier solutions such as: Point to Point circuits, Direct IP Transport, Direct Internet Access, Long Distance and SPAM interdiction to the Chicago area. ITS is a member of glimaWest.

ITS Communications provides voice, data and internet connectivity through its rapidly growing “IXC Direct” national network, said ITS Sales VP Chuck Hegarty.

Were expanding into all of the Great Lakes, Hegarty said. We have offices in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. Well add Ohio and Wisconsin in the next three to six months.

The 20-year-old companys corporate headquarters is in Grand Rapids, where most of its 50 employees are based. Its other Michigan offices are in Kalamazoo, Lansing, Southfield and Traverse City.

ITS operates as a virtual network carrier, like Tier One suppliers SBC and AT&T. It also operates as a regional carrier like TDS MetroCom and LDMI. Its third skill set is to operate as a wholesaler for Tier One carriers, sell at Tier Two pricing and wrap up the whole deal up with personalized customers service, Hegarty said.

Just about anybody is a target customer, he said. But I would say our primary customers are 5-15 site enterprise customers. Our largest customer is an insurance company in Michigan, with some 300 sites.

The latest wrinkle in ITS marketing plan is connecting customers with headquarters or operations in the Great Lakes to far flung offices in Mexico, India, Ireland and China.
