LANSING – Top U.S. administration officials, along with Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, will join Gov. Jennifer Granholm in Saginaw on Wednesday to discuss details of President Barack Obama’s proposals to develop new energy policies.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke will join Granholm and Doyle on Wednesday at the Dow Event Center, as will Ed Montgomery, Obama’s director on automotive communities and workers, and David Sandalow, the deputy U.S. secretary of energy for policy and international affairs.

The federal officials will outline Obama’s plan to promote development of renewable energy industries, which officials could hope could promote millions of jobs and reduce the U.S. economy’s dependence on oil.

That proposal is controversial, with some critics warning it could prove too costly to consumers and industries.

A number of local officials as well as the public have been invited to the forum, where they will be able to ask questions about the proposal.

The event, which is by invitation only, is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. in the center, which is at 303 Johnson Street in Saginaw.
