GRAND RAPIDS ? Grand Rapids bested the Detroit metropolitan area ? including Ann Arbor ? as the best big city for entrepreneurs to do business in the September issue of Entrepreneur magazine. Michigan, unfortunately, ranked 26th nationally.

The Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland metropolitan statistical area ranked 26th in Entrepreneur magazine?s 12th annual Hot Cities report. The Detroit-Ann Arbor-Flint MSA ranked 29th.

Lansing-East Lansing ranked 56th on the mid-sized city list, while Jackson (No. 122) and Benton Harbor (No. 147) made the small city list.

Phoenix topped the national list for big cities, followed by Charlotte and the Research Triangle in North Carolina Rounding out the top five are Las Vegas and Austin.

While the Midwest failed to place any big cities in the top ten, it does boast five of the next six: Kansas City (No. 11); Chicago (No. 12); Columbus, OH (No. 13); Cincinnati (No. 15); and, Indianapolis (No. 16).

Hopefully the political powers that be in Lansing are reading this article and will make the changes necessary to make Michigan more entrepreneur friendly.
