TRAVERSE CITY GLIMA Northwest will host in September what it bills as a big city show in this small Northern Michigan community with its first Fall IT Symposium what the technology networking group hopes will become an annual event.
The show will feature two tracks of educational content on such topics as IP Telephony and Wireless Options as well as a keynote speech from Chris Nims, head of Operations Security Countermeasures at America Online. Nims is AOLs hacker sleuth.
This has never been pulled off before, a big city show in our community, said GLIMA Northwest President Chris Barber. Were inviting IT professionals in Northern Michigan, adding some more from the Upper Peninsula, and bringing them all together. Vendors cant possibly cover all this territory on their own. And for the attendees, they dont have to drive five hours to Detroit to attend an ITEC-like technology showcase.
The Fall IT Symposium is scheduled for Sept. 23 at the Waterfront Inn Conference Center in Traverse City. Attendance is free to GLIMA members from any chapter statewide and $10 for non members. Barber said he hopes to sell booths to about 30 vendors. Exhibit space costs $100 for GLIMA members and $150 for everyone else.
