GRAND RAPIDS glima Automation Alleys Association of Interactive Professionals, is hosting its first annual meeting for its growing membership base in mid August. The two-day event will feature a golf outing plus a full day of panels and break out workshops aimed at helping glima continue its rapid growth in Michigan.
The first glima Annual Meeting will run from Aug. 15-16 and start with a day long golf outing at Boulder Creek, followed by a Tech 5:01 meeting at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company. On Aug. 16, a series of panel discussions and breakout workshops is scheduled for the Holiday Inn Select. Price for the two day package, including golf, is $95 a person.
The goal of this event is to bring glima members as well as perspective members – from across the state to meet and share issues pertinent to the organization said glima Chairman Phil Bertolini. Were also looking to have some fun and a little relaxation.
Grand Rapids was selected as the site for the first glima Annual Meeting because Grand Rapids was the second chapter added to the glima affiliate network. The original glima chapter was formed in Oakland County in the mid 1990s. Automation Alley bought the glima network in 2001 and established the glima Southeast chapter in Pontiac, where Automation Alley is headquartered.
When Automation Alley took over glima, we told Grand Rapids wed like to work with them to host an annual conference, Bertolini said. In the future, it will be a rotating event. Were just starting it in Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids is home to glimaWest. Other glima chapters are in Kalamazoo (glimaSouthwest), Traverse City (glimaNorthwest) and Flint (glimaEast.) New chapters may soon be formed in Lansing and Ann Arbor.
