ANN ARBOR ? GLIMA has added its sixth chapter, this time in Ann Arbor where GLIMAWala will hold an informal mixer on Thursday, called Tech 5:01, to introduce itself to the University of Michigan community.

Wala is short for the Western Wayne, Washtenaw and Livingston counties, the region this new GLIMA chapter will attempt to draw its members from. GLIMAWala joins GLIMAsoutheast (Pontiac), GLIMAWest (Grand Rapids), GLIMAsouthwest (Kalamazoo), GLIMAEast (Flint) and GLIMANorthwest (Traverse City). GLIMA Network Chairman Phil Bertolini said two more GLIMA chapters will be announced in the first quarter of 2005.

?They?re hosting the Tech 5:01 event to generate interest in this chapter, which will officially be launched in January,?? he said. ?The Ann Arbor IT Zone has attended several of our organizing meetings and sees our newest chapter as complimentary to what the Zone is doing in providing educational and networking opportunities for IT professionals.?

GLIMAWala board member Gerry Elliott said the focus of his chapter will be on recruiting students from local colleges and universities. Cleary University will serve as host of the GLIMAWala Chapter. Elliott said about a dozen people have already joined GLIMAWala. He hopes the Tech 5:01 program at Leopold Brothers Brewing Company will attract a couple dozen more.

Forbesoft and Elliott Enterprises are sponsoring the event, which starts at 5:01 p.m. Dec. 2. Admission is free. Munchies will be provided.
