AUBURN HILLS ? Gibbs Technologies is hiring around 100 people to help the company build the protypes for its new high-speed, power-sports amphiquad called the Gibbs Quadski ? a cross between an all terrain vehicle and a jet ski.
Gibbs Chairman Neil Jenkins said the company expects to hire up to 100 new salaried and hourly employees within the next 12 months to fill openings in manufacturing engineering, sales and marketing, dealer development and manufacturing.
?We are interviewing candidates for several senior management positions in manufacturing and sales and marketing as well,” he said.
The company currently is building advanced prototypes of the Gibbs Quadski for product testing this summer to be followed by production next year. The Gibbs Quadski is capable of achieving speeds of up to 45 miles per hour on both land and water.
Gibbs hopes to make from 500 to 1000 production vehicles in 2010 and up to 2,500 within the first 12 months. The company will do the initial build at its Auburn Hills facility, but is scouting Michigan and the rest of the country for permanent manufacturing locations, a spokesman said. Within two years, Gibbs could have more than 500 employees.

Gibbs Technologies is the world?s leading developer of high-speed amphibians for consumer, law enforcement, rescue and other commercial uses. The company also is developing military applications for its technology under an agreement with Lockheed Martin.
