DETROIT – Within the next 10 years, we could be holding virtual conversations with our cars dashboards, making sure your eyes never leave the road.

Onboard computers in high-end vehicles are already able to tell you where you are, how to get to where you want to be, and whether you have enough fuel to get there. An article in TelematicsUpdate suggests that it wont be long before we can have natural conversations with our cars.

Roberto Sicconi, IBMs mobile research director, said todays speech recognition systems have certain limitations, but the company is developing a system with the ability to answer back, albeit in that annoying disembodied computer-generated monotone.
