DETROIT – Michigan Governor-elect Rick Snyder Wednesday announced that former Michigan

economic development director and current Business Leaders for Michigan President and CEO

Doug Rothwell will chair his transition team and help the Governor-elect and his team get off to

a fast start to reinvent Michigan.

Former budget director and state treasurer Mark Murray, currently president of the Meijer

Corporation in Grand Rapids, and former Engler Chief of Staff Sharon Rothwell, currently vice

president for corporate affairs at Masco Corporation in Taylor, will serve as vice-chairs on the

transition committee, Governor-elect Snyder said.

“Doug, Sharon and Mark have the right combination of government and private sector

experience to help me build and organize Michigan’s reinvention team,” Governor-elect Snyder

said.

Rothwell and the transition vice-chairs will serve as volunteer advisers to Governor-elect

Snyder during the transition period. This team will work closely with state officials from

Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s administration to ensure a seamless transition to the Snyder

Administration.

About Doug Rothwell

Rothwell has worked as an executive in the public, private and non-profit sectors, working

for three state governors and two Fortune 500 companies. Rothwell currently is President

and CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan and was formerly president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. He also served in executive positions at General

Motors Corporation and MBNA Corporation (now part of Bank of America). Rothwell holds a master of public administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware, and he attended the John F. Kennedy School’s residential program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University. He resides in Ann Arbor.

About Mark Murray

Murray has an extensive career in the public and private sector. He is currently president

of the Grand Rapids-based retailer Meijer, a position he has held since 2006. Prior to that, he

was president of Grand Valley State University for five years. Murray served in Governor

Engler’s administration both as budget director and then as state treasurer, the only person to

serve in both positions since the posts were created. Murray was vice president of finance

and administration at Michigan State University before joining the Engler administration. Murray holds a master’s degree in labor relations and bachelor’s degree in economics, both

from Michigan State University. He resides in Grand Rapids.

About Sharon Rothwell

Rothwell is vice president for corporate affairs for Masco Corporation where she is

responsible for overseeing community and charitable engagements, as well as representing

Masco in government relations and civic activities. Rothwell joined Masco in January

2003 as director of civic affairs. Prior to joining Masco, Rothwell served as chief of staff

to Governor Engler, functioning as the chief operating officer for Michigan state government.

Rothwell has also served as the director of the Office of the State Employer for the state

of Michigan and as the state personnel director for the state of Delaware. Rothwell holds

a master of public administration degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North

Carolina at Chapel Hill. She resides in Ann Arbor.
