DEARBORN – This week?s SEMA show will be the stage for a new concept built by Ford and Microsoft. Ford promises ?mobile office? capability with the modified F-Series, thanks to wireless connections and a rugged laptop.
The concept is based on a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup outfitted with all the gear a contractor might need on the work site?GPS navigation, wireless broadband, a printer, a digital camera, and a mobile tablet-style computer running Windows XP that can be docked inside the vehicle.
So equipped, Ford says, a contractor could bid out jobs, order and purchase materials and take payments all on the go. The system could show up as a Ford dealer-installed option in 2006. The concept vehicle was created by California Custom Sport Trucks of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
