LANSING ? Michigan Sen. Bob Emerson (D-Flint) has been appointed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm as the state’s new budget director succeeding Mary Lannoye, who steps down from that position at the end of the year.
Emerson, who was Senate Minority Leader and is term-limited, will take over the duties January 3, the governor’s office said.
Emerson had served 18 years in the House, where he served on the Appropriations Committee, before his election to the Senate in 1998. He also served on the Senate Appropriations Committee before becoming minority leader.
“Senator Emerson’s 26 years of legislative experience and first-hand knowledge of the appropriations process make him a perfect choice to manage our budget through these challenging times,” Granholm said in a statement.
