GRAND RAPIDS – Christopher Payne, the president of the ISSA chapter in Grand Rapids, said he expects upwards of 500 security professionals to attend the first GrrCON information security and hacking conference on Sept. 16.

Keynote speaker is Moxie Marlinspike, of Whisper Systems & Institute for Disruptive Studies. He has more than fifteen years of experience attacking networks, is the author of sslsniff and sslstrip, runs a cloud-based WPA cracking service and manages the GoogleSharing targeted anonymity service.
Payne and conference co producer Jeff Bleich started working on creating a local event for security professionals about a year ago.
?I go to DefCon every year, but with budgets tightening, getting companies to pay for travel to security events is getting more difficult. So we decided to host one in our own backyard.?
The event is capped at 500 attendees. Payne said he?s about half ways there. Security professionals who attend will get 12 continuing education credits. There?s also a New Horizons Computer Training Center Ethical Hacker Training Discount. Tickets cost $95 for the one-day event.
