LANSING – Consumers Energy customers will help pay for some $20.2 million in enhanced security for new equipment put in place since Sept. 11, 2001, under an order issued Tuesday by the Public Service Commission.
Consumers had asked for $24 million to cover new procedures and equipment it has put in place since the Terrorist attacks on the East Coast including the requirement that the utility beef up protection at its nuclear power facility near South Haven.
The order (docket No. U-14126) provides for Consumers to recover its costs through December 31, 2005. Under the state’s electric restructuring law, all electric rate freezes expire January 1, 2006 and any costs at that point would have to be covered under new rate filings.
Consumers has 30 days to submit proposed tariffs that would provide it the additional revenue.
