DEARBORN ? Clean Emission Fluids, an alternative energy company, was named the winner of the TiECon Midwest Business Plan Competition Thursday night at the entrepreneurial event held at the Henry Hotel in Dearborn.
The company gets an audience with The First Step Fund, which provides emerging companies with access to capital, focused mentoring in areas consistent with growing the business, and a network that will work to foster demand and create opportunities. First Step typically loans from $10,000 to $50,000 to a company with a payback period of two years.
Clean Emissions, based in Wayne State University?s TechTown, has developed a special pump that blends biofuels and emission fluids for use in vehicles already is use at some Meijer stores.
Runner up was SanoBio Therapeutics, which is taking a novel peptide molecule proven to be highly effective at treating cataneous wounds and commercializing it for the treatment of diabetic ulcers. The company is a University of Michigan spin out.
Third place went to WriteSteps of Ann Arbor. The startup is the product of a former elementary school teacher who has developed an elementary writing program that makes the difficult task of teaching writing much simpler. Teachers and students watch the lessons and use the downloadable materials for the follow up lessons.

BazaarBee, a marketplace of Indian wedding fashion that is dedicated to creating a shopping experience that rivals a trip to India for a bride.
DataSpeaks Health Solutons, the first software company with the capability to measure the benefit/harm of prescription drugs and other exposures for individuals.
