CASCADE TOWNSHIP – Christian book publisher Zondervan will soon close on BibleGateway.com, a well used nonprofit Bible search engine, which it is purchasing from Gospel Communications of Muskegon.

The agreement signed Monday includes the Bible search engine, which averages six million different users each month, and Gospel.com, a central Web site for more than 250 Christian groups.

Eight employees involved in BibleGateway have been hired by Zondervan, Gordon Loux, CEO of Gospel Communications, told the Grand Rapids Press. Terms were not disclosed.

Owned by HarperCollins, Zondervan expects to expand the Bible search site to incorporate more reference materials and study resources.

Gospel Communications has employed as many as 35 but has a smaller staff now, the company reported.

Next up is a new home for Gospel Films, the film business. Gospel Communications is in talks with Pennsylvania-based Vision Video, but no deal has been signed.
