LANSING – A third consecutive poll shows Republican business executive Rick Snyder running the best among potential GOP gubernatorial candidates against either of the possible Democratic nominees.
The survey from Rasmussen Reports had Snyder leading House Speaker Andy Dillon, 41 percent to 33 percent and beating Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, 42 percent to 30 percent. Snyder’s lead over Dillon is within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points, but his margin over Bernero is outside the margin of error.
In comparison, Attorney General Mike Cox leads Bernero 40-34 and Dillon 39-37. And U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra leads Bernero 39-36 and Dillon 40-35. Each case would be considered a statistical tie.
When Rasmussen conducted surveys in February of prospective head-to-head match-ups, the results were largely the same when Cox or Hoekstra were pitted against the Democratic candidates although Bernero did cut his deficit to Hoekstra from 13 percentage points to just three.
The February survey did not test Snyder against the Democrats.
The new survey was conducted June 9 among 500 likely voters.
