DETROIT – Apple Computer and BMW say that the popular iPod music player will now be able to be integrated into several BMW and MINI stereo systems. The companies say that a special cable installed at the dealer will allow the vehicles existing stereo head units to control the iPod.
The iPod can be plugged directly into the audio systems of vehicles with an input jack, but the BMW installation at a cost of $149 for the cable will be the first instance in which the iPod is directly linked into a specific vehicle brands audio systems.
BMW says the new adapter will work in its 3-Series vehicles, the Z4, the X3 and X5 SUVs and the MINI Cooper.
