ANN ARBOR – Give Camp, a partnership between the local developer community, Microsoft, Washtenaw Community College, Domino?s Pizza, and Verio, will be held in Ann Arbor July 17-19. Michigan Give Camp is a weekend-long event where software developers, designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom software for local non-profit organizations.

Developers and non-profits will collaborate at the Michigan Give Camp to create custom software best suited to meet the needs of participating organizations. Throughout the weekend, developers will work on creating software that will be presented to all participants at the conclusion of the event.

?Non-profits are often resource-strapped when it comes to IT,? explained Microsoft?s Jennifer Marsman. ?Give Camp offers a free resource where developers donate their weekend to building the tools a non-profit needs, like a new Web site, a data collection application or donor tracking application.?

?Participating in Give Camp is a way to give back to non-profits in a way that leverages the talents of IT professionals,? Marsman added. ?Knowing that software or Web work completed over the weekend makes a difference to not only non-profits, but to those they serve, makes the time spent at Give Camp rewarding beyond measure.?

Give Camp supporters include:

Microsoft is taking a leading role in organizing developers and non-profits to participate in Ann Arbor?s second Give Camp. Additionally, Microsoft has donated a gift bag of software and books for each charity, software giveaways for the developer volunteers, and funding for food.

Domino?s Pizza is donating 2 meals for the event, as well as the time of its employees.

Washtenaw Community College has donated space for developers and non-profits to collaborate as well as camping space for those wishing to stay on-site the entire weekend.

Verio is providing free Web site hosting until January 2010 to non-profits who participate in Give Camp and require hosting services.

At last year?s Give Camp in Ann Arbor, 15 non-profits received over $500,000 in custom development, software and Web site hosting. Additionally, 2008 Give Camp Ann Arbor participants created GiveTime, a Web-based scheduling application that allows volunteers to schedule themselves to work events for non-profit organizations. GiveTime was released to CodePlex, Microsoft?s open source software repository, to benefit all non-profits.
