LANSING – A new group made up of the Business Leaders for Michigan and the University Research Corridor called Accelerate Michigan was unveiled Tuesday as a way to boost the state as a top state for economic development.

The new program is aimed at helping both groups “better connect” their strategic strengths and assets to encourage entrepreneurial growth in Michigan, stimulate economic growth and give Michigan a greater international spotlight “as a hub of innovation,” said Gerry Anderson, chair of the BLM’s innovation committee.

The group was developed based on benchmarks set by similar business-university research results in other states, such as North Carolina and Massachusetts.

The partnership is already sponsoring a competition to spur development of entrepreneurs through new business plans, trying to stimulate areas of innovative companies, called “clusters of innovation,” and trying to find innovative companies to grow.
