LANSING – “Freaky Deaky,” a new movie based on Elmore “Dutch” Leonard’s novel of the same name, won approval for a film incentive, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

The book, and now the movie, is about a group of 1960s radicals in Detroit who meet up again in 1974.

It will mark the 14th film adaptation of one of Leonard’s 44 novels, but the picture will be the first filmed entirely in Michigan.

The incentive will be worth $2.86 million, according to MEDC officials.

Leonard, a graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy and for decades a resident of Birmingham, joked the announcement was the “best news I’ve heard about Michigan’s participating in feature films.”

The film will be directed by Charlie Matthau.
