ANN ARBOR – Biotechnology Business Consultants and the eleven Michigan Smart Zones are partnering to educate Michigan small technology businesses about the $2 billion plus awarded annually by the federal government through the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs.
The Smart Zone Road Show is an intense one-week tour to many major
Michigan cities to present the facts about SBIR/STTR funding and aid small
technology businesses in making the decision to apply. Each 90-minute
session will serve as an introduction to this key source of federal funding.
Attendees will leave with enough information to determine if they want to pursue
funding and attend subsequent intensive training with BBC, which is paid by the state to provide training.
“Many of the companies we work with don’t even realize these funds exist,” says Managing Partner, Lisa Kurek of BBC. “We are looking forward to educating companies and helping to bring more federal research dollars to Michigan.”
BBC’s SBIR/STTR grant assistance program includes:
Grant sourcing and identification of funding opportunities
Strategic planning to integrate grant funding with business strategy
Broad-based training ranging from grant basics to intensive proposal preparation
In-depth scientific, business and administrative proposal review
Post-award administration and grant management
Federal agencies with SBIR/STTR Programs include: Department of Health
& Human Services (NIH, CDC, FDA), Department of Defense, NSF, Department of Energy, NASA, Department of Transportation, EPA, Department of Agriculture,
Department of Commerce, Department of Education, and DHS (Homeland
Security).
There is no cost to attend the Smart Zone Road Show. The tour will
visit Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Midland, Troy, Detroit and Ann
Arbor the week of October 16th.
