W. Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, Meijer Host Luncheon April 10 On Sustainable Agriculture In Great Lakes Region
GRAND RAPIDS – Sustainable agriculture is a way of farming that meets our food needs without compromising the ability for future generations to do the same. It has a strong focus on locality, highlighting local growers and manufacturers. This can help businesses and communities lower their carbon footprint while supporting the local economy.
West Michigan and the larger Great Lakes region are expected to be important areas for the future of agriculture in the United States. Farming methodologies, which shift and evolve as technology develops, are also key components of sustainable agriculture. Approaches can vary significantly across producers and the most sustainable method is always up for debate. Our program will feature diverse perspectives from small organic farmers, greenhouse growers, and regional purchasers to speak to the future of agriculture in our region and the methodologies they currently employ. Monica Wyant, Produce Business Manager, Meijer
