CINCINNATI – Cincinnati area dispensaries are spreading seasonal cheer as they participate in the very first “Green Wednesday” in Ohio since adult-use cannabis legalization last year.
On Nov. 7, 2023, Ohio became the twenty-fourth state in the U.S. to legalize adult-use cannabis with 57% of voters casting a ballot in favor of Issue 2.
Although the state of Ohio does not sanction this unofficial holiday, “Green Wednesday” is comparable to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
However, this day focuses on shopping deals involving legal cannabis.
Dispensaries cannot use the phrase “Green Wednesday” in their marketing, but what they can do is hold a sale.
“We have sales going on Wednesday and Friday this week,” General manager of The Landing Dispensary Abayomi Nelson explains. “There’s some door-busting sales. We have a lot of sales specifically about our curated collection which is great for people that are new to the program.”
The curated collection includes items like gummy edibles, which, along with the other items The Landing has for sale, are behind lock and key.
Walk-in recreational customers can place an order at a kiosk when they walk in the door and then the orders are filled on the spot.
“Our new brand, ‘Heir’ is extremely, extremely popular,” Nelson states.
Nelson says he’s a fan of edibles.
“It just tastes so good. It’s hard to stop eating, honestly,” Nelson shares. “I only take one piece and I put it away because it’s like that first bite is just so good.”
Nelson says the dispensary is still trying to work past the stigma of marijuana that some people have.
“We get new people coming in that are like, ‘I haven’t had anything since the 80‘s, since the 70’s. I used to be an everyday smoker,’“ Nelson continues. “And it’s nice to see people coming back to it after the stigma, like you say, of people not really feeling comfortable.”
A Californian pioneer of the legal cannabis industry explains that other locations across the country have seen sales increase 90% on previous Green Wednesdays, making today a highly profitable day for local dispensaries.
